Generation After. Showcase: Exodos

Exodos (from the Greek éksodos – “departure”) is a song sung by a chorus at the end of a tragedy. It does not introduce new events but offers a summation and a lyrical-moral commentary.

EXODOS is the final part of a long-term research project by Przemek Kamiński, centered on the life and work of American dancer and choreographer Fred Herko. It follows two earlier performance works — “Sunrise Sunset” and “Sunrise Sunset (manifesto)” (both produced and presented by Berlin’s HAU Hebbel am Ufer) — as well as the video piece “Afterglow”.

EXODOS is a dance concert that celebrates endings and beginnings, evoking Herko’s queer utopian spirit of the unfinished, the too-late, and the not-yet-there. The performance space becomes a horizon imbued with potentiality, while dance serves as a tool for imagination, affirmation, and ornamentation. Through light, sound and movement, the performers create temporary landscapes, summoning Herko as a guide – a tender ghost caught between being remembered and being reimagined.

Organized by the Nowy Teatr for the ninth time Generation After. Showcase is an intense presentation of new trends in the Polish theatre. It presents the newest developments taking place on Polish theatre stages to representatives and programmers of the most important festivals and theatre institutions from Europe, Asia and the Americas. This year's edition will be held on September 4-6, 2025.
