Afrofuturism is not only about feature films but also the world of the short film—a form that is, in many ways, highly egalitarian and accessible to artists working with limited budgets. While most of the titles presented are American productions, the medium itself is decidedly global. The program features four films: Afro Algorithms, Pumzi, Sight, and They Charge for the Sun. Each reveals a different facet of the Afrofuturist short form: from post-apocalyptic landscapes following climate catastrophe to dystopian systems of control.
