Free Art Day

 

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and a group of volunteers invite you to a slow, calm, and contemplative experience of art. On this day, we will look at several works and ask ourselves questions that will redirect our senses toward an expanded presence and experience of each one. Join us for a unique guided tour featuring discussion, moments of reflection, and meditation. Over the course of 90 minutes, we will view only a few selected works. Come, immerse yourself, and experience art without rushing.

The event will be led by volunteers: Dorota Oyrzanowska, Stanisław Szewczyk, Weronika Giza, Roksana Pieróg, and Michalina Pasierbska, supported by Dominika Jagiełło and a group of other volunteers.

We’ll meet at the large reception desk, by the “meeting point” sign. Dress comfortably, and take your time. See you there!

The session lasts 90 minutes. Two time slots are available:

Session 1: 12:00–1:30 p.m.

Session 2: 2:00–3:30 p.m.

Free Art Day is an annual international event during which museums and galleries around the world open their doors to invite visitors to focus on a small number of artworks (up to five) and give them the attention they deserve.

During the event, volunteers, educators, curators, and artists are present in the exhibition halls, whose task is to initiate discussions and encourage reflection on the exhibits on view. Unlike traditional lectures, their role is to provoke an exchange of ideas and the sharing of impressions. This year’s edition is held under the slogan: “Presence Without Haste,” which aims to encourage personal interpretations and a contemplative reception of art.

Additionally, the goal of Free Art Day is to debunk the myth that specialized and comprehensive knowledge is necessary to understand art. By focusing on selected works, participants have the opportunity to independently discover their meanings, draw inspiration, and find pleasure in visiting museums.

 

For years, Warsaw’s cultural institutions have been joining the international community celebrating Free Art Day. The following institutions are participating in this year’s edition:

• Museum of the University of Warsaw
• Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art

Each of these institutions will offer attractions ranging from presentations of exceptional exhibits to meetings with special guests. This is a unique opportunity to view art from a new perspective—on your own terms, without rushing, and with full engagement.
