Flow tells the story of a cat accustomed to spending its days in solitude. It paces its familiar paths and sleeps in favorite spots in a home that, although filled with traces of human presence, seems to belong to the cat alone… that is, until a mysterious flood engulfs the world it knows. The only refuge from the rising waters becomes an old wooden boat. Other animals – a capybara, a bird, a lemur, and a dog – also find shelter there, and the cat's nature and independence are put to the test.

As they drift through mystical, flooded landscapes, the animals face the terror of the elements and increasingly difficult challenges. The perilous journey gradually transforms into a symbolic voyage, where each character undergoes a personal transformation and discovers new forms of sensitivity. By following this unusual group of companions on their adventure, we, too, become part of the crew.

Flow is a story of interspecies friendship and solidarity, where each frame builds a captivating visual odyssey. It is a warm and touching tale for both older and younger audiences.

Directed by Latvian animation visionary Gints Zilbalodis, the film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival (Un Certain Regard competition) and returned with four awards from the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, including the Jury Award, the Audience Award, and the Best Original Music Award. Officially selected as Latvia’s entry for the 2025 Academy Awards, Flow is also considered a strong contender for a nomination in the Best Animated Feature category next year.
