Custard Cream Cakes

First presented in 1994 at the Croatian Association of Artists in Zagreb, Kremšnite (Custard Cream Cake) is one of Mladen Stilinović’s most ironic and critical installations. The artist uses the motif of a popular dessert as a metaphor for consumption and empty promises. Seemingly light and humorous, the installation reveals the mechanisms hidden beneath the surface of everyday life, reflecting Stilinović’s characteristic language of simplicity, absurdity, and sharp socio-political critique.
