Discussions about the role of criticism—whether artistic, theatrical, or literary—resurface with stubborn regularity, that is, after every text that causes a stir within the community. Let’s add: a negative text. Or perhaps simply a critical one? We cannot escape the topic of negative criticism, but we want to examine it not only from a technical or ethical perspective, but also from an affective one.
What do we click on in criticism, and why? And what if we click on the same things that people generally click on online? What does negative criticism mean for the editorial staff of cultural magazines, and what does it mean for authors?
