COSMIC DEBRIS is literally space waste. The term refers to different types of waste, fragments and remains, which are scattered in the outer space, such as elements of space stations and spaceships.

COSMIC DEBRIS is a choreographic installation which addresses mindfulness, slowness and the problem of performing simultaneously within different hierarchies of values. It enables the viewers to discover the relations between forms and the delicate balance that keeps systems and organisms interlinked. Performers’ slow transformation of the space around them is an invitation to reflect on on a vision of an archaeology of the future and an embodiment of artefacts.

This choreography occupies remains. It transforms the resources accumulated inside waste by means of an alchemic process. It accumulates objects, it decomposes them methodically, separating layers from layers and discovering new qualities. The waste can become a resource for magic. Mythology, tools, codes of behaviour, rituals all become a highly plastic material interwoven with the physicality of human and more-than-human performers, weaving out of them a certain designed reality.

The event is part of the opening’s Choreographic Programme. With more than twenty shows, the audience will be offered an opportunity to witness diverse artistic strategies and a multitude of formal takes. The programme includes works in progress, dance acts and choreographic installations, with spectacular group productions sharing space with intimate solo activities.
