Where is the event taking place? Szumin
Event date: September 12, 2026 (Saturday), 10:00 a.m. The return to Warsaw is scheduled for around 5:30 p.m.
Meeting point: Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. The exact location where the bus will pick up participants will be emailed to those registered for the trip about a week before the event.

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to a unique summer bus trip to the House of Zofia and Oskar Hansen in Szumin—a historic site on the Bug River that blends family memories with an architectural vision of the future.

Traveling by coach is not only a comfortable way to reach your destination, but also an excellent opportunity to spend time with people who share your interest in architecture and art. Once there, you’ll be treated to a guided tour of one of the most fascinating houses in post-war Poland—a space where the presence of its creators and residents is still palpable.

The house in Szumin was designed and gradually expanded by Zofia and Oskar Hansen—architects and educators who turned it into a manifesto of their Open Form theory. It is a space that responds to life—flexible, functional, open to people and change. In Szumin, the Hansens rested, worked, taught students, and welcomed guests. Simple wooden teaching aids for learning composition still stand in the garden, and the famous dovecote serves as a reminder of their sense of humor and passion for creation.

The tour includes a walk through the house, the garden, and its surroundings, as well as a story about the ideas that guided the Hansens and how they can be found in the smallest details of the space.

On-site event schedule:
11:30–12:00: Scheduled arrival by bus in Szumin.
12:00: We will invite the first half of the group for a tour of the house (approx. 45–60 minutes). During this time, the second half will have time for an independent walk around the area—to the Bug River and/or the oxbow lake.
2:00 PM: Group swap. We will invite the second half of the group for a tour, while the first half will have free time.
3:30–4:00 PM: Planned departure for the return trip (the exact meeting time at the bus will be announced by the guides on-site).

IMPORTANT ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION:
There are no grocery stores or food outlets in Szumin. We recommend bringing your own food and drinks. The museum does not provide refreshments.
In the event of very bad weather conditions, the organizer reserves the right to change the event schedule, including shortening the stay in Szumin and returning to Warsaw earlier.
