About

Intimacy Coordination (IC) is a recently emerged profession in the film industry. The demand for IC has grown exponen-ally in the wake of the Hollywood #MeToo movement. The role of the in-macy coordinator is to ensure the director's vision is realized while respecting the boundaries and needs of the actors. Intimacy professionals ensure comfort and safety during the creation of intimate scenes on film, television, and theater. The European market for intimacy coordination emerged 3 years after the Anglo-Saxon boom. English-speaking organizations are training new coordinators, creating a global narrative as well as standards. What is the European reality of working in this area? Is the process established by the European IPG Intimacy Practicioners' Guild relevant to Central and Eastern Europe?

As part of a panel discussion between the films Body Parts (2022) and Loss of Balance (Utrata równowagi) (2025), experts in the field of safe creative processes will reflect on the challenges of implementing the coordination of intimate scenes in Central and Eastern Europe.

What role does fantasy play in the process of creating intimate scenes in this part of Europe? Do people from Central and Eastern Europe have in common a specific sense of humor, reluctance to vulnerability, and limited language regarding intimacy? How has the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine changed our perspectives on safety? What strategies do IC practitioners use to create a safer process for demanding scenes? How does the current requirement for a consensual crea-ve process affect a director's individualized vision? How do ICs balance artistic freedom with the necessary documentation: breakdowns, nudity riders, consent agreements, closed set protocols, reports, feedback? What role does the actor/actress' body play in negotiations with their agent and legal department? When can work ethic turn into drudgery and blocking rigor? Is informed consent always informed?

Content warning: the panel will cover topics related to sexual abuse, harassment, violence, traumatic experiences.
