Szumin is not just the former home of renowned architects. Above all, it is a living laboratory of the Open Form! It was here that Oskar Hansen once held his famous Summer Schools and successfully transformed the architecture and surrounding nature into a fascinating backdrop for visual experiments. For the Hansens, the house meant much more than just a place to live and relax. It was the practical embodiment of their theory—a space that evolves with its inhabitants and flexibly responds to their daily needs.
Now we invite you to rediscover this extraordinary space! A sketchbook-style tour of the house in Szumin is a great opportunity to take a close look at the building, chat, and… draw together.
What will we be doing?
We’ll weave captivating stories about Szumin and its creators with short art exercises. These will help us warm up our hands and quickly spark our imagination. Sketching will be the perfect excuse to take a moment’s respite and take a close look at the forms that surround us.
After a guided walk together, we’ll find time for free-form creativity. We’ll spread out with our sketchbooks inside the building and in the beautiful garden next to the house. You don’t need to have much experience drawing—what matters is mindfulness and the joy of the creative process itself!
Facilitator’s bio:
Paula Kuch-Krawiec – educator at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Graphic designer and illustrator. Graduate of the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She also completed the Pedagogical Studies program at the Faculty of Visual Culture Management at the Academy of Fine Arts. Collaborating with cultural institutions, she leads various workshops for children, teenagers, and adults.

Check ticket availability before visiting Szumin! Tickets are available online and at the Museum ticket office at 103 Marszałkowska Street.
Buy a ticket before visiting Szumin (preferably online). Tickets cannot be purchased on-site. If you arrive in Szumin without a pre-purchased ticket, unfortunately you will not be able to visit the Hansen House. Due to conservation requirements, the number of visitors to Zofia and Oskar Hansen’s house in Szumin is very limited.
How do I get to Szumin?
There are several ways to get to Zofia and Oskar Hansen’s house in Szumin:
• by private car: please park in the parking lot on Podleśna Street (96A Podleśna St., 07-130 Szumin). The parking lot is about a 15-minute walk from the house. Please take this into account and arrive early enough.
• by train with a bicycle: you can get off at the Barchów or Łochów station and continue by bike. You can leave your bike in the Hansens’ garden.
• by taxi from Łochów
