Teresa Murak (b. 1949 in Kiełczewice) is a sculptor, author of installations and performances. Graduate of art history at the Catholic University of Lublin and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, she is a pioneer of land art in Poland. Ecological themes – the connection between man and nature, to which the artist gives spiritual and metaphysical meanings – are crucial for Murak’s art. The artist uses natural materials and processes: germinating grains, growing bread dough, river mud, clay. However, the most characteristic material for her is cress, which she has been using in the Sowing series since the 1970s.
