Art in Sign Language

 

“Art in Sign Language” is a series of workshops for children ages 5–10—both Deaf and hearing—and their guardians. The sessions offer an opportunity for creative activities with the family and for learning basic concepts in Polish Sign Language (PJM). Whether you use PJM in your daily life or are just beginning to learn it, we invite you to join us for some fun and to discover art in a new way.

 

During each session, we’ll explore one of the exhibitions on view at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, learn a few signs in PJM, and create our own artworks inspired by selected pieces. Participants will also receive specially prepared coloring pages featuring the sign language signs they’ve learned—you can take them home and practice the new words with your loved ones.

The workshops are led in PJM by Jagoda Cerkiewnik—a Deaf graphic designer and educator. The sessions are interpreted into phonetic Polish so that people who do not speak PJM can also participate.
