From October 1982 to September 1983 Zbigniew Libera served time in prison for political prisoners in Hrubieszów. For the artist being in prison didn't equal with suspending his artistic activity – thanks to his drawings, which he cerated for other prisoners, he was able to survive this period.
Exlibris for Jerzy Kaniewski made in the technique of linorith is an attempt at making the prison life more banal or familiar. Exlibris, a form associated with affluent, enlightened people's libraries, within the walls of prison gains new meaning. It turns out the reality we live in can be created thanks to small elements and in this way define the world that surrounds us anew.
