Association of Friends of MSN Warsaw

The association was founded in 2009, soon after opening of the museum’s first home at ul. Pańska 3. Under the association’s statute, it conducts operations supporting the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and has the status of a public benefit organization.

The centerpiece of the Friends of MSN Warsaw agenda is to contribute to the purchase of works for the museum’s collection, and to supplement the museum’s own contribution to the acquisition fund of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The first symbolic acquisition financed by the association was Andrzej Wróblewski’s drawing Museum. The association has also financed the acquisition of works by Zbigniew Libera, Goshka Macuga, Mirosław Bałka, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Lukas Müller, Mikołaj Sobczak, Rafał Milach and Gizela Mickiewicz. In conjunction with Friend of a Friend Warsaw, the association has established the Friends Art Prize, under which works by Sean Mullins, David Flaugher, Shana Moulton and Nancy Lupo have been acquired.

Alongside campaigns for bolstering the museum’s collection, the association is engaged in integrating the communities around MSN Warsaw—people who are interested in art, who write about art, collect art, advise institutions, and organize artistic events. Members of the association have opportunities to meet with creative individuals, visit their studios, participate in special guided tours of exhibitions at leading galleries and institutions, and to attend openings and international events such as the Art Biennale in Venice and art fairs such as Frieze, Paris Plus, and Art Basel. Sharing experiences and bringing together people from the worlds of culture and business are a major part of the association’s activity. Meanwhile, the Friends of MSN Warsaw pursue the statutory aim of disseminating contemporary art through collectors’ editions developed in cooperation with artists associated with the museum. So far this has resulted in special editions of works by Paulina Ołowska, Aleksandra Waliszewska, Patryk Różycki, Wilhelm Sasnal, and others.

The members of the management board of the association as of 19 June 2024 are Dr Aleksandra Auleytner, Michał Borowik, Helena Czernecka, Zuzanna Krzątała, Krzysztof Nowakowski, Hanna Rydlewska and Kinga Szafrankowska.

Information on the amount of dues and members’ privileges is available under the tab BECOME A FRIEND.
