As it is the case in the series of Records, Sikorski sets here simple structural guidelines for himself, which he then meticulously puts into practice. Simple records of the sky, human ear, car driving down the street draw more attention to the context of camera work and conditions of creating film representations than to the actual content of those representations.
The final Compromise VII, consisting in an attempt at recording “stars in the sky at noon” and evoking conceptual projects of the creators of “impossible” art, addresses, as the artist put it: “attempts at going beyond the existing, clearly defined reality”, but above all – the scepticism about the possibility of a perfect “film record” of whatever, especially the living, moving and infinite phenomena (hence the title of the series: Compromises).
