Filmoteka Muzeum

Work carried out in the frame of the Christmas party Wieczorynka at Galeria Mospan, run by Sikorski. The action was performed live for the audience, and then recorded on camera. By “producing” his own, alternative TV broadcast, the artist contested the then TV broadcasts, which were strictly controlled by the communist authorities.

The act of fumbling around with his hands inside a TV set which was turned on but deprived of the screen (you could only hear the broadcast) also came as a gesture of freedom and a call for individualism, as well as, as Sikorski put it: “an illustration of McLuhan’s slogan ‘Medium is the message’”, since one of the “scenes” behind the TV screen was that of lit lamps in its own interior.
