Jastrubczak makes a reference to a tale about a mysterious book found by accident in order to analyse single scenes from films that often enjoy a cult status. 2013 is a work that concerns fascination with cinema, unexplained and intriguing coincidences in reality, mutual overlaps between reality and the film world.
A presentation and discussion of the found object provide a pretext to analyse a complex network of connections that can combine the chaotically gathered information into a paranoid structure and help interpret this information as signs.
Specific references have one common feature – they always lead to death. In his pursuit to decode the mysterious finding, the artist asks if the number/year 2013 may perhaps be a prophecy of the end embedded in allusions and film scenes. Thus, the found book becomes a prophecy of a strange mind that remains on the lookout for harbingers of the approaching apocalypse.
