Marcin Maciejowski (born 1974)
Marcin Maciejowski (born 1974 in Babice) is one of the most recognized Polish painters and graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. In the years 1996 – 2001, together with Wilhelm Sasnal and Rafał Bujnowski (among others), he co-founded the Ładnie Group, the activity of which was interpreted as Pop Banalism. Since his debut, Maciejowski has remained faithful to his own formula of realistic painting, focused on references to everyday life in its most prosaic forms, usually filtrated through linguistic communicates of the press, radio and TV. For this reason, in his paintings Maciejowski oftentimes combines image with text, thus building up narratives which ironically show the Polish reality.
