1984-1988 (1-50/628)

The years 1984-1988 are time of most intense artistic activity. Libera creates many well-known works during this time: „Madman“, „Ewa“, „Untitled (Hommage à Gawron)“, „Hermafrodite“, „Pretty Boy“, „Mistic perseveration“, „Someone else“, „Patients“ or „Pigtail“.

An impoartant element of Zbigniew Libera;s art during that time are studies over old age and sexuality. The cycle documenting ageing of his grandmother („Untitled (grandmother)“, „Intimate rites“, „Regina G.“, „Sleeping grandmother“, „Grandmother's corpse“) show human body degradation accentuating pitilessly all its weaknesses. The works dedicated to Libera's grandmother caused lots of controversy. They were often read as the old woman's humilation. But next to the documentary aspect of those works we see care, love and respect to a close person, which is not longer able to take care of herself.

Bodiliness appears also in the works „Somebody else“ and „Hermafrodite“ - the artist studies non-normativity of sexual nehaviors and identities, while in cycles „Libera-furniture“ and „Dummies“ he reflects over objectification of human body and sexuality.
