The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to a series dedicated to methodological and ideological transformations occurring in museums in Poland and worldwide over the past few decades.

We will address the question of why and how contemporary museum have changed and why is it that we are desperately in need of new ones in Poland. We will reflect, among others, on the relations between museums and the economic development of cities, as well as on their political and social roles. We will scrutinise new educational models implemented by art institutions and new visions of constructing art collections. We will discuss the separation of museums of contemporary art from institutions dealing with modern art in the 1970s (widespread in the 1990s) and the development of unprecedented models of cooperation with artists and the public. Invited to discuss these questions will be museum directors, who will share their experience of creating contemporary art institutions, as well as politicians and economists.

The series will be launched by a debate on institutional changes that have recently taken place in Poland.
