Watch the trailer:

A funny, provocative and immensely involving film by Michel Gondry – a director of international renown – in which he hold an animated conversation with Noam Chomsky – one of the greatest thinkers of the XX and XXI century.

“Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?” is an attempt to present Noam Chomsky’s outstandingly interesting personality as well as his fascinating, albeit complicated, scientific theories. In his movie Michel Gondry opted for an exceptional technique: not only did he hold a captivating and honest conversation with the scientist, but he also spiced it up with fantastic animations that brilliantly reflected what Chomsky was talking about on the screen. Owing to this, his ideas become more explicable and accessible to viewers. Chomsky encourages spectators to an unremitting self-reflection when evaluating the surrounding world and, in particular, to constantly challenge the message we get from the media. As a result, the film transforms itself into a true visual and intellectual feast, whereas its title is a conscious and slightly ironic language play that refers to Chomsky’s linguistic theory.

The film was awarded a special mention of the jury at the Millennium – main competition section of the XI PLANETE DOC FESTIVAL in 2014.

The Polish premiere took place in May 2014 at the XI PLANETE DOC FESTIVAL, where it received a special mention of the Millennium main competition. What’s more, Michel Gondry honoured the festival with his presence.
