MIKOŁAJ SMOCZYŃSKI - SECRET PERFORMANCES, 1987 (1-6/6)

The element of the exhibition of Mikołaj Smoczyński at the Pracownia Dziekanka on 6 -16 January 1987: fragment of a real flooring placed on the wall; a black and white photo 70 x 100 cm was put near it, showing this flooring in its initial state, with a gleam of light.

„These events have always been beyond explanation. Their sense and properties have run away. If they last somewhere, it happens separately: out of themselves, out of their image and outside of me. There is no memory about them or even a memory of their memory.

I keep on repeating the same in the same way. It is not to prove something or discover it. I repeat because I expect that something, the existence of which I anticipate, or rather, what exists in my expectation – could disclose itself on its own. Events last, but their image is not able to show something which is already gone – identity, which creates it.”
