Her later self-portrait, entitled Ego, is also characterised by a proliferation of meanings and personal symbols belonging to the mental sphere. A long paper form, folded like a concertina—a kind of scroll with a decorative motif—results in a book-object. In this work, Brătescu unites drawing and text, two separate “elements” which reveal in a different way the substance hidden in her mind.
