PUNCTUS CONTRA PUNCTUM is a film-score, an (autonomous) prelude to the artist’s larger project. The film forms part of her research devoted to composition and relations between sound, vision, music, and space. Zaradny refers to a mediaeval and renaissance composing technique that consists in composing a counterpoint for a fixed or formerly composed melody: note counters note, sign counters sign. The analogue image is the cantus firmus (fixed song), while sound serves as the counterpoint. The non-specificity of the source (in sound and vision alike) is of key importance to the artist, referring the spectator/listener to the music of the spheres.
