Cepelia Pavilion - photo documentation (2018)
The exhibition of the tenth edition of the WWARSAW UNDER CONSTRUCTION festival will be set in the space of the former Cepelia pavilion, whose original guise is almost entirely hidden from view today.
The original Cepelia design called for the exterior of the pavilion to be almost entirely transparent, drawing in customers by day and melding itself into the city at night, its neon logo illuminating the surrounding street along the eastern side and from the rooftop down to Marszałkowska.
Not much has been left from the original splendour of this "urban lantern". There have been attempts in the meantime to restore it, including a laudable effort by Zygmunt Stępiński Jr. to rid the façade of ads, but with no lasting effect. For this year’s Warsaw under Construction festival, Cepelia will return to its original function as a showcase space – in a contemporary guise. The exhibition will be shown on two floors: in the space of the former casino on the upper floor – with its gaudy aesthetic hailing back to the late ‘90s – and in the basement, which will be cleared of all the superfluous walls and structures that had broken it up over the years.

Виставка 10-го фестивалю «Варшава в будові» відбудеться у просторі колишнього павільйону «Цепелія», що сьогодні є практично невидимим.
Суть початкового дизайну екстер’єру «Цепелії» була у тому, що павільйон мав бути майже повністю прозорий і цим приваблювати покупців вдень та розчинятися в місті вночі. Неонові лого освітлювали околиці зі східної сторони та з даху зі сторони Маршалковської.
Від колишньої розкоші цього «міського ліхтаря» майже нічого не лишилося. Були спроби її відновити, зокрема, схвальні намагання Зиґмунта Стемпінського-молодшого позбутися реклами з фасадів, що врешті-решт виявилися безуспішними. В рамках цьогорічного фестивалю «Варшава в будові» «Цепелії» повернуть її колишню функцію виставкового павільйону, хоча й залишать у сучасному стані. Виставка буде розташована на двох поверхах: у просторі колишнього казино з його надлишковою естетикою кінця 90-х та у підвалі, звідки приберуть всі зайві стіни, набудовані там за останні роки.
