HESTIA ARTISTIC JOURNEY
EXHIBITION OF THE 16TH EDITION OF THE CONTEST

HESTIA ARTISTIC JOURNEY

The finals of this year's 16th Hestia Artistic Journey competition will be hosted by the Museum on the Vistula – a branch of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.

The opening of the exhibition to the general public will take place on 27 June, when the works of all the finalists will be put on display and the winners will be announced. The exhibition will be accompanied by educational events.

The opening of the exhibition of the works of this year's finalists of the Hestia Artistic Journey competition and the announcement of the winners are the two main items on the agenda of the final gala at 7 pm on 27 June 2017 at the Museum on the Vistula, a branch of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. To support young Polish artists, Sopockie Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeniowe ERGO Hestia SA has been the patron of the project – unique on the national scale – every year since 2002. The Hestia Artistic Journey Foundation has been given the task of organizing the competition.

The exhibition, which will be open until 9 July, will include video works, photography, sculpture, painting, graphic art and installations by 26 young artists, finalists in the competition. The works will be presented in the space of the Museum on the Vistula, which ERGO Hestia is supporting as its strategic partner. This will be the second exhibition in the recently opened pavilion on the Warsaw boulevards. The event will be a great opportunity to find out what's new in Polish art.

— 26 finalists represent as many different creative ways to approach art. Youth often surprises us and, indeed, this is what we have come to expect. It is also true that we owe this extraordinary display of artistic diversity to the jury of the competition – its members, who represent different backgrounds and generations, looked at art from many perspectives when choosing the most interesting works. We encourage you to approach this diversity from your own point of view and your own perspective — says Magdalena Kąkolewska, president of the Hestia Artistic Journey Foundation.

The jury of the 16th competition will come to its decision after listening to individual presentations of all the 26 finalists. This year's winner of the main prize will be given the opportunity to make an artistic journey to New York City, the world capital of modern art. The winner of the second prize will spend an inspiring month in Spain, attending classes at Valencia University. Whether in New York City or Valencia, each residence will be filled with creative work, visits to galleries and museums, and meetings with artists. After their return to Poland, winners of the competition will have the opportunity to exhibit their art in various galleries in Warsaw; moreover, the works of selected finalists will be periodically shown at the ERGO Hestia Art Pavilion in Warsaw.

In addition to the residency awards, a special prize, funded by Piotr M. Śliwicki, president of Sopockie Towarzystwo ERGO Hestia, is also awarded each year. It is a commission to present the company's annual report in an original format. Thus, on the occasion of the 16th final exhibition, visitors to the Museum of the Vistula will be able to view the work of Hanna Dyrcz, last year's winner of the special prize. The artist will present a project, which is the result of many months of creative exploration, meetings and conversations with ERGO Hestia employees.

As always, the exhibition of the works of the finalists of the Hestia Artistic Journey competition will be a special event on this year's cultural map of Warsaw. The exhibition will be accompanied by other events, including free educational art workshops for children and adults, as well as special guided tours. All of this represents a unique opportunity to get a peek at the direction in which young art students are moving, what subjects they are interested in and how much their perception of the world may influence the perspective of the audience.
