For a Shamanic Cinema (alternative strategies in performance) - Grace Ndiritu
Kinomuzeum invites you to a series of screenings by the British/Kenyan artist Grace Ndiritu.
Her work, which combines advertising, documentary and music video strategies within the framework of performance video art, has been exhibited internationally, including recent installations at the 2005 Venice Biennale, Chisenhale Gallery, London, and the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham. Her practice has largely been motivated by major global issues concerning the inequality and degrading of human beings due to war and poverty. Such issues have formed the backdrop for her practice, which has developed into a powerfully thoughtful and visually invigorating body of work presented via video performances, which are infused with landscape, music, fabric and passion.
Tonight the audience will have the opportunity to see some of Ndiritu's key works curated by the artist under the umbrella term of Shamanic cinema which is understood here as a set of various strategies such as meditation and spiritual understanding - the key forces behind many of her works, which are utilised by the artist in order to charge her works with a sense of transcendence.
