Strike MoMA: Solidarity as the Compass of Change
Presentation by T. J. Demos

  • Strike MoMA: Solidarity as the Compass of Change

Department for Artistic Research of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, in cooperation with the Research Department of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invite you to persentation by T. J. Demos.

This short presentation will draw on material from my forthcoming book, "Radical Futurism: Ecologies of Collapse / Chronopolitics / Justice-to-Come." It examines the ongoing artist-activist efforts to invent post-MoMA futures—beyond the modern art museum as corporate directorate interlinking oppressive relations with the armaments industry, extractivism, media monopolies, and fossil capitalism. In expanding conventional understandings of climate justice to socio-political realms, it simultaneously demands a solidarity of intersectionality that is nothing less than an insurgent universality. The presentation will be concluded by a discussion facilitated by Kuba Szreder, bringing in references to the local institutional, activist, and artistic practices.

The lecture contributes to the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Department for Artistic Research of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, in cooperation with the Research Department of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
