    Zbigniew Libera

Meeting with Zbigniew Libera on the occasion of opening the archive with the works of the artists on Museum’s website, connected with film screening.

The collection encompasses the period from the beginning of the 1990s, that is, from the time of formation and crystallization of the main areas of Libera’s artistic interests, to be manifested in his mature works. Looking at the early, or even infant works of Libera, one can understand and trace the obsessive reoccurrence in his works of such motives as death, destruction, sexuality and oppressive nature of a society.

The archive presented on the Museum’s websites is unique. The artist in a radical gesture makes public almost all documents preserved, photographs and videos from before 1991 (almost two thousand items). Next to the well-known, iconic works, such as “Intimate Rites“, “Mystical Perseverance“ or “How to Train Little Girls“, we present photos from his family album, documentation of the artistic life (the “Strych” in Łódź and “Kultura Zrzuty” /Chip-In Culture/), collection of photographs and press clippings gathered by Libera as inspiration, materials used for his works and photographic documentation of his journey to North Africa and Israel at the end of 1989 / beginning of 1990.

The online Artists’ Archives created by the Museum aim at facilitating research and popularizing the most interesting phenomena of the art after 1945. Currently, the website: artmuseum.pl provides access, among others, to the archives of Alina Szapocznikow, Eustachy Kossakowski, Tadeusz Rolke, the studio of prof. Grzegorz Kowalski or the 7th Berlin Biennale.
