The last decade of the 20th century gave Polish architecture a series of deep changes, new technologies, new ways of working in small design studios, new subjects and, finally, a new aesthetic.
Many designers who hadn't had access to jobs before were suddenly presented with the opportunity of a lifetime - to prepare very big projects. It was often chance that decided on quick careers and the final form of buildings that often reshaped cityscapes. Almost two decades later, the nineties remain a vaguely recognized land. But they did leave behind a vast gallery of buildings that often scream their originality and distinctness from previously standing modernist paradigms. At the same time they remain different from projects of the following decade, when Polish architecture became more and more professional and finally joined in on Western technological solutions. The lecture will be devoted to the early stages of contemporary firms’ careers and the silent heroes of the time, forgotten or omitted authors of important projects from this incredible decade.
