Miasta Magazine #3

  • Miasta Magazine #3

Miasta Magazine and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invite to a launch of the third issue, dedicated to the older citizens of modern cities.

We are all aware that our society is aging, but our cities are still not sufficiently adapted to the needs of the elderly. Most of them do not have appropriate development strategies, showing that we do not fully comprehend the scale of the problem or have ideas how to deal with it, the consequences of this truism and effectively put his forehead. We lack adequate diagnosis and response to the needs of senior citizens in various aspects of life in the city while the challenges we face in order to develop the city that is senior-friendly are growing.

Growing discussion about the aging of the population shows the younger generation the value of considering what old age is, and how the city and its community should adapt to the needs of older people – not only to show inter-generational solidarity, but also because of our own future needs later in life. So it is time to seriously start working on adapting our urban environment to the expectations and needs of the generations that have raised us but are now often facing barriers and access difficulties that prevent them from living an active life backed by full social support of aging.

It is also time to start a conscious adaptation of cities to our own future needs. To this end, we invited experts in various fields, both Polish and foreign, including the World Health Organization and it's Age-Friendly Cities Network, to contribute to the third issue of the Miasta Magazine, and published it under the title “The Senior Town”.

The meeting will be an opportunity to consult “Senior-Friendly Warsaw 2013 to 2020” Programme of the Social Assistance and Programs Office of the City of Warsaw.
