  • The Context

The notorious Rem Koolhas’s architectural credo “fuck context” is impossible to be executed either in architecture or in art. No artist is able to liberate from the system they live in.

Even while designing a model of a town located five thousand kilometers away, whose construction and local context we will never see – we are entangled in the global context of neoliberal economy. Perhaps freedom and true autonomy is about prying deep to grasp the invisible and the intangible.

In Michael Madsen’s documentary film Into Eternity, the director gets his camera and enters a nuclear waste repository being constructed deep underground in Finland. The film focuses on how to prepare a construction site for this nuclear waste which will continue to be active for the nearest one hundred years. How to design architecture for people of the future, whose context and way of thinking we cannot predict, who are going to inherit the world from us in a hundred thousand years?

The young architects, Emilia Walędzik and Adam Melcher, will talk about the legacy we will leave for future generations, and how we should approach architecture in the context of the future.
