Oskar Hansen: Opening Modernism. On Open Form Architecture, Art and Didactics

  • Oskar Hansen: Opening Modernism. On Open Form Architecture, Art and Didactics

"Oskar Hansen: Opening Modernism" analyzes diverse aspects of the architectural, theoretical, and didactical oeuvre of Oskar Hansen, Polish member of Team 10, and chronicles the impact of his theory of Open Form on architecture, urban planning, experimental film, and visual arts in postwar Poland.

Following a conference organized by the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw in 2013, the volume offers new insights into the ideas of openness and participation in state-socialist economies, as well as the interrelations of architecture, visual arts, and the state. Among contributors are: Joan Ockman, Łukasz Stanek, Felicity D. Scott, Andrzej Szczerski, Tomasz Fudala, Katarzyna Murawska-Muthesius, Karol Sienkiewicz and David Crowley.

The book accompanies a traveling exhibition which has its premiere at MACBA, Barcelona in 2014.
