KRZYSZTOF ZARĘBSKI & STEPHEN MONTAGUE - ZONES OF CONTACT, 1979 (1-5/5)

Performance of Krzysztof Zarębski and Stephen Montague took place at the Workshop Dziekanka on 11 October 1979.

CONTACT AREAS

Senses, recording impressions, allow, depending on the scale, ratios and emotional and intellectual possibility, for achieving a formal stage. In case of my artistic activity these are performances, showing relations of touching, color and sound. Possibility of free operation of creation (human, item, situation) allows for finding new fields of artistic activity. I am interested in observation and marking of the following contact areas between human, nature and item: occasional, arranged, external, internal, static, dynamic, mental, rational, irrational.

Examples:

1. Audio tape with recorded sound is not played by the tape recorder, but hung on ropes, moved by the stream of air from a fan – it emits whisper.
2. A piano player putting his hand on the keys meets a layer of plants (chive).
3. Fragment of audio tape, about 20 cm, „goes through" a piece of ice („freezing of sound”).

Emotional and sensual area should be examined by art, because it does not make in time after human intellectual development.
Knowing oneself in this way, we can make sure that we should learn some emotions from the start, and it is the area of art where we can find new sensibility.
