KRZYSZTOF JUNG, CAPRICHOS XIII, 1982 (1-5/5)

The second implementation of Krzysztof Jung’s performance took place in the workshop of Daniel Wnuk in Warsaw on 19 March 1982.

„As an artist, I reacted on the imposing of martial law with one of the first actions outside of official galleries.

In a private workshop of Basia and Wiktor Gutt in February 1982, publicly, blindfolded, I tried to reproduce the Goya’s engraving „when the mind sleeps, demons are awake” entitled „Caprichos XIII”. It was the first demonstration outside of Repassage not under my choice, but because the martil law authorities have closed the gallery. Never again has this interior of Repassage, where my beautiful huge cockroaches dwelled, coming to the sink for watering as wild animals, became my second home. As the gallery interior was for me something more than just an exhibition space. It was an endless number of grown on traces and items left here by others, traces which I respected and esteemed. It was also a window to the most beautiful street of this ugly city, to its faces, figures – the people of Krakowskie Przedmieście”.
