Description by Filmoteka Muzeum

Documentation of one of the cult actions from the so-called “heroic period” of Wspólnota Leeeżeć (The Lyyying Community), carried out in Piotrkowska St. in Łódź (1991). As it was the case in several other street actions from the early days of Poland’s political and economic transition (A Brief Occurrence with an Axe and Cats [Krótkie zdarzenie z siekierą i kotami], Lyyying Dead [Leeeżenie trupem], Wspólnota Leeeżeć Feeds a Line [Wspólnota Leeeżeć wciska kit], Lock Mandela Oop [Zamknonć Mandele]), the artists provoke reactions of passers-by and introduce an uncanny element into the urban realm. That reality is already different from the times of the most famous actions by the Orange Alternative collective, yet it still abounds in absurdities.

“A DIY taxi in the colour of penance is entering a taxi rank in Piotrkowska St. in Łódź and awaits its turn to be hired. Later, with a passenger on board, the community taxi enters the traffic flow on the longest street in Europe. A symptom of surreal miraculousness in the urban landscape of the second year of the so-called transformation of the political regime” – writes Andrzej Miastkowski (Egon Fietke).
