Performans

Description by Filmoteka Muzeum

The performance centers on the icon of the Christian martyr – Saint Sebastian. He has been known as the patron of homosexuals. He was tied to a pole and shot with arrows. The performance is also a tribute to the Polish artist working in the 70s – Krzysztof Jung, who very often used threads as elements connecting, tying naked bodies together. Jung is also said to have been the first Polish artist in the field of gay performance art.

Anka Leśniak describes Branas’ performance:

“He stood motionless with his arm held out, threads all around the arm. Their ends were fastened to the walls by means of hooks. After a longer while the artist cannot keep his arm held out any longer, and as the arm falls down, the threads sink into the skin deeper and deeper. In the end the performer lowers his arm violently, tearing the hooks out from the walls.”
