Performans

Description by Filmoteka Muzeum

The film records the making of Grzeszykowska’s photographic cycle Negative Book, created between 2012 and 2013, which results from a game that the artist plays with the medium of photography, and in particular with the reversibility of the relationship between the negative and the print.

As it was the case with some of her previous series, Grzeszykowska turns photography inside out, treating it as raw material for editing the visible. The photographs, which show pre-arranged everyday scenes, portraits and holiday photos, are presented as negatives that feature an unnaturally bright figure of the artist, as if in a “positive.” Grzeszykowska tampered with the usual appearance of the negative employing a performative element: she covered her own body with dark paint.
