EWA PARTUM, AESTHETICS, 2006 (1-7/7)
On the evening of 10 October 2006, at the opening of her exhibition at the Warsaw gallery Królikarnia, Ewa Partum has performed the action „Aesthetics”. Guests were invited by the artist to the garden behind the gallery Królikarnia, where there were eight letters made of paper rolled up as a rope, writing AESTHETICS on the ground.
The artist with the help of assistants has put on fire, and a burning inscription was shown soon to the audience gathered on the terrace. After the fire was extinguished, Ewa Partum collected a part of ash to previously prepared envelopes with prints, thus creating a limited and numbered edition of her works for the audience and collectors. This ironic and reflexive critical work was performed by the artist in different places since 1988, showing it for the first time in Warsaw at the occasion of her retrospective exhibition in the gallery Królikarnia.
