  • Bronisław Schlabs, Photogram II/14, 0

Before Bronisław Schlabs joined the informal photo group founded by Jerzy Lewczyński and Zdzisław Beksiński, he was faithful to social realism. The 1956 encounter with those outstanding photographers brought Schlabs’s breakthrough exhibition A Step into Modernity. The works presented there revealed a truly modern approach to photography: by cutting, heating up or sticking negatives to various surfaces, Schlab’s created abstract forms, contradicting the traditional understanding of the art of photography.
