  • Aneta Grzeszykowska, Negative Book, 2012

Photographs from the "Negative Book" cycle, created at the end of 2012/beginning of 2013, result from a play with photography medium, painting and performance, in which Aneta Grzeszczykowska focused particularly on the reversibility of relations between the negative and the positive. The artist took a series of photographs of her own body using the traditional analogue technique and painted it black to obtain a bright positive portrait of hers. Presenting the arranged scenes of everyday life, portraits and travel photos in this way, Grzeszczykowska radically changes photography, but also the whole visible world, asking the crucial existential questions about alienation or impossibility to fully capture one’s own identity in a work of art.
