  • Miriam Cahn, Small family, 2012

“Kleine Familie” (“Small Family”) is one of the artist’s most recent paintings. This disturbing, dreamlike image presents three enigmatic figures with blurred silhouettes, simplified faces and exaggerated, almost grotesque private parts. The artist has placed the three-member family in an aura of tension and symbolic violence, focusing, at the same time, on the mother in the forefront of the family constellation. Miriam Cahn’s painting wonderfully enriches the feminist context in the collection of the Museum, putting her in a group of female artists who touch on the issues of unspoken traumas and suppressed emotions.
