Włodzimierz Pawlak (born 1957)

Włodzimierz Pawlak (born 1957 in Korytów near Żyrardów) is a painter, performer,
poet, art theoretician and pedagogue. He lives and works in Korytów and Warsaw. Since 1982, he has been a member of Gruppa – an informal art group with connections to the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts (Ryszard Grzyb, Paweł Kowalewski, Jarosław Modzelewski, Włodzimierz Pawlak, Marek Sobczyk and Ryszard Woźniak). Gruppa was one of the most interesting artistic manifestations of the 1980s, noted for its neo-expressive “wild” aesthetics and contentious attitude: against the political realities of martial law on the one hand, and against the growing academism of neo-avant-garde practices on the other.
