Leon Tarasewicz (born 1957)

Tarasewicz is one of the leading contemporary Polish painters. He was born in 1957 in WaliƂy, Podlasie region. Despite a sense of identification with his place of origin noticeable in his early work as well as nature and landscape references, he systematically covers up traces that could point towards the genesis of his work. Gradually, the structure of his paintings inspired by the nature became an area of captivating, sensuous play of pure, intensive colors applied to the surface with parallel stripes. In his many large format works, such as the one made on paper and deposited in the Museum, the artist creates pictorial surfaces, in which color, texture and light are most important elements.
