Jadwiga Sawicka (born 1959)
Jadwiga Sawicka is a painter and photographer who also creates objects and works in public space. From the late 1990s, her pictures have involved words and phrases lifted from the mass media. Sawicka’s “written painting” uses words devoid of any real content, which only briefly catch our eye amid the stream of media. We are invited to reflect on life in the “information age”: nowadays the problem is not a lack, but a barely endurable avalanche of information vying for our attention. Sawicka’s linguistic communiqués are in contrast with the traditional technique she uses to express them (oil on canvas).
