Janusz Połom carried out a number of experiments, where he confronted sounds and their respective images. As Robakowski was relieving the image from human domination by letting the camera work without an eye on the view-finder, and thus relieving it from the influence of cultural codes, Połom, similarly, by translating sounds into images in a direct way gave autonomy back to them and transgressed (or at least problematised) their traditional, representational character. To attain this end, he used various tools, including an oscillograph, with which he realised the film entitled ABC (Alfabet, 1974). He undertook a large number of other activities with the aim of visualising sounds.
