Filmoteka Muzeum

This is a meditation on color and the durational aspect of two of my favorite paintings: Pontormo’s Deposition (1526-1528) at the Capponi Chapel in Florence and Malevich’s 1915 Black Square where the craquelure reveals the previous layer of color paint visible through the cracks.

The 70-second animation is to be looped to-and-fro, as if making and remaking, body gestures and colors borrowed from Pontormo compose a square movie which hovers between making and unmaking.
Sound design by Tim Partridge.
