4/51 Dolna St. is one of the first works created by the duo Grzeszykowska – Smaga. It is a cycle of black and white photographs taken during the period when both artists studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Grzeszykowska and Smaga’s daily life in a cramped apartment is documented in a series of intimate scenes seen from above, as if from the ceiling. 14 years later, the artists turned the cycle into a time-lapse film, thus underscoring the performative character of their project.

The concept that underpins 4/51 Dolna St. will feature also in their later works, such as the cycle Plans (2001–2003). Both projects concentrate on the documentation of residential spaces embracing the activities of their dwellers. The personal character of the work bears testimony to the artist’s idea of merging art and life, the private sphere and artistic practice.
