The idea of the transformation seems ideologically neutral, but in reality it is not.
During the meeting we outlined the processes that have been taking place in Poland since the 1990s., with a special focus on housing and spatial transformations. We also asked what sort of reflection should follow Marcin Król's statement: “we were foolish”.
Transforming from a so-called socialist economy to a free market resulted in a number of changes that were supposed to adjust the country to a neoliberal system. Deregulation and privatization processes deeply influenced public and private spaces - but also the social relations that take place in them. Suburbanization, gentrification and gated housing estates, as well as the depopulation of city centers, are not isolated phenomena, but a logical consequence of the paradigm we live in.
