Olga Chernycheva, b.1962, painter and video-maker, already has an international reputation and is s surely the most important female artist of her generation.

While, like Dmitri Gutov or her work is distinctly post-Soviet yet in love with the grandeur and vicissitudes of Moscow’s history, I would argue that her work distinguishes itself through a certain tenderness. Her interests have expanded from the internationalism of the School of Paris to Eastern Europe and contemporary Russia, and the wider questions of post-Modernism and post-Communism.
